The Editor:
When the outlook for your child's life is one that will be filled with pain, bones constantly breaking and no chance to walk, you will search for anything that could improve that quality of life for your baby.
For our family, the Shriners are the only ones that provided that hope for us. After our son had broken 14 bones before he was a month old, we were so fortunate to have the Shriners in Estevan help us get our son to their hospital in Montreal.
The Shriners' Hospital has world-renowned experts in many orthopedic conditions, including Osteogenesis Imperfecta, (brittle bone disease) which is the genetic bone fragility disorder our son was born with. Carter has received bone building IV treatments every few months that have increased his bone density and freed him of his constant bone pain. He has also had two surgeries there to insert titanium rods into his femurs.
We have been to the hospital 18 times already and our son is only three. We will continue to go there every four months now for his treatment and are blessed to have the local Shriners pay for our flights and hotel rooms for every trip.
The little boy that used to break a bone from just rolling over is now walking everywhere and hasn't had a fracture in over three years.
Please support the Shriners and the incredible work they do when the circus comes to Estevan in June. We will never be able to thank the Shriners enough for changing our son's life, but we know the big smile on our little boy's face as he proudly shows off how he can walk, is enough for them.
By supporting the circus, you're also helping to change a child's life.
