Letter: Weyburn resident demands accountability on Oberg case

Weyburn reader Claire Kuhn wants to know how much the school division spent in the case against Wade Oberg
Cornerstone board office
With Cornerstone's education director Lynn Little retiring, Weyburn resident Claire Kuhn is asking for some answers in the Wade Oberg matter

To the Editor

I think there is some unfinished business the director of education (Lynn Little, for Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Cornerstone School Division) should attend to before she retires at the end of June.

Four years ago, I wrote a letter to the Review and the Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Cornerstone School Division in defence of Wade Oberg.

The school board asked that I wait to submit my letter until I heard the other side of the story. Now, four years later, I, and no one I know, has ever heard the other side of the story.

It was recently announced that there would be cuts in services because the provincial government had lessened grants. However, there was another big expenditure that caused a shortage of funds that we, the taxpayers, are entitled to know.

The Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Cornerstone Public School Division has never made public the amount of money spent in the court cases involving Mr. Oberg. They even spent more of our tax dollars appealing the verdict in favour of Mr. Oberg, knowing full well they would not win.

The school board has an obligation to reveal to the people of Weyburn how much of their hard-earned tax dollars were used in this unjust treatment of a highly-respected and well-liked principal.

No doubt the total expense has long ago been tallied and should be readily available.

Therefore a public statement with this information should be made to the taxpayers of Weyburn before the end of June.
