Get Lost!

Jennifer's Journal

It's easy for me to get lost, especially when travelling to places that I have never been before. It's amazing what you might come across when you allow yourself to get lost.

I recently travelled to Midale, a small town I had never been to before. Well, long story short, I ended up on a short stretch of highway between Carlyle and Estevan (don't ask...just continue reading and let us never speak of this again).

I saw something pretty neat on that road I never intended on travelling - a giant, life-sized Transformer, half man, half machine, just like in the movies!

I could not believe my eyes. There it stood, harnessed by a tractor, a metal-man with yellow car doors for arms and legs and a car chassis for a body. He was 50-feet tall if he was a foot and he had a little head atop his steel shoulders.

My only real regret is that I never got a picture of the homemade Transformer in that farmer's field. I would have stopped but another driver was travelling awfully close to my car's rear-end and I was afraid that if I slowed down he wouldn't notice because he was likely gawking at the huge steel structure like I was!

Another time I got lost this summer was when I was on my way to Tobin Lake. We (the driver shall not be named) took a wrong turn and ended up on the wrong side of the lake (it's a big lake).

By getting lost we were able to witness an awful, yet interesting, site - a forest, completely devastated by a forest fire a few years ago. Its' bare trees stood like bones protruding from the grey earth.

It was interesting to see how the flames had affected the trees. Some were burned only up to the point where the flames had reached, making for trees that were dead on the bottom and somehow alive on top.

Life isn't always about rushing from one destination to the next, there are valuable things in between that are worth our time. And so what if it took me an hour and a half to get to Midale, the destination is only part of the journey. At least, that's what I tell myself when I take a wrong turn!
