The Editor:
The whole anti-bullying program we're supposed to have in the Estevan Comprehensive School is bogus.
I can't believe some of the horrible, horrible things people say about each other. People go to school sick to their stomach, afraid to face the people who judge them, and talk behind their backs. It's horrible knowing that the human race has gotten so low and people can't even accept each other the way they are; their looks, the way they act, the way they dress, the way their voice sounds, their gender preference, the way their hair swoops, their weight, their skin tone ... all of these things are trivial and shouldn't matter one bit because the person's personality is what should matter most.
I just wish people would stop and think before they act, before they send that person home in tears, before they make that person afraid to go to school every morning, before they send that person into a deep depression, and maybe even make that person ponder life, and wonder if it's really worth living.
There needs to be change.
People need to stand up and eliminate the fear of being called a snitch because if the bully is dealt with, even slightly, maybe the bullying will slowly start to cease.
It upsets me to know that all of these things go unseen, and the problem isn't dealt with, and by the time it's found out, the person has already done harm to themselves. It's absolutely terrible, and when one of the strongest people I know comes to me in tears because of something someone else has said about them, I know it's gone too far.
