July 11 marked a memorable day for Saskatchewan – most of the COVID restrictions were lifted and one does not have to wear their mask (unless they wish to do so). Hallelujah! It’s so nice to be able to see the whole face of the person you’re talking to. But let’s still remain cautious as we proceed in the next days, weeks and months. Don’t want to have to backtrack and have to start all over again. Let’s just keep moving forward now.
The weather turned hot once again, but for the beginning of the first week of swimming lessons, it had to turn windy and cold, give a few little showers and finally towards the middle of the week it began to warm up and get warmer and warmer as the days went by – making for great days to spend at the pool.
The first set of swimming lessons are now over and glad to report that everyone seemed to have had a great week of lessons – good work swimmers and thanks to the instructors for a job well done. The second set of swimming lessons started on July 19. They are held in the morning and regular swimming is held during the afternoon. Lots of time for practicing the lessons.
There is a third set of lessons which will be held Aug. 9. Hopefully you’ll be able to attend one of these lesson days. In the meantime, enjoy your time at the pool.                                                                                                    Â
Congratulations to Chase and Jaelene Boettcher on the safe arrival of their new baby daughter, Isla Carol Lynn, on July 10. Her three siblings, Wyatt, Owen and Karlee were also pleased to welcome Isla to the family.

On July 15, Shelly Cowan and daughter Ainsley made a trip to Minot for the first time since the border had become closed due to COVID-19 in March 2020. They were so very happy to be able to visit face to face with family members grandma and grandpa Nilsen, and Auntie Dicie as well as all the other relatives. Attending the graveside service from Alida were Tim Cowan, Ken, Diane and Sadie Potapinski, Gray and Edel Cowan, along with his niece Darlene (Tom) Town and sons from Pinawa, MB.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Justin (Alesha) Boettcher, Chase (Jaelene) Boettcher and their families on the death of their grandmother, Magdalena Klein who had passed away on July 14 at the age of 96 years. A graveside service will be held at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens in Estevan. Condolences are extended to all other family members as well.
The Alida Rec. Board wishes to inform everyone that there will be no further Bings held at the Alida Hall, as the Bingo committee has folded due to the lack of volunteer workers.
I noticed a card was up at our store and post office informing us to join the Kennedy family for a celebration of life for their parents – Yvonne (Mar 1942-Sept 2019) and Hugh (Apr 1932-May 2021) at the Carnduff Cemetery Columbarium on Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. Following the service a gathering at the family farm will be held. Contact Leigh at 306-539-9334 to confirm your attendance at the farm.
