The carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Power Station had another productive month in February, as it was online 96 per cent of the time, according to data released by SaskPower on Wednesday.
The facility captured 67,699 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2). The average daily capture rate when CCS was online was 2,494 tonnes per day, with a peak one-day capture of 2,533 tonnes.
The facility came offline briefly toward the end of the month because of a trip caused by a mechanical issue.
In the previous 12 months, it was online 75 per cent of the time.
The amount of CO2 captured in February was above the 12-month average of 60,787 tonnes.
Since the facility came online in October 2014, it had captured 3,927,619 tonnes of CO2, as of Feb. 28. In the first two months of this year, it captured 117,072 tonnes of CO2.
