Cattle prices up at Assiniboia auction

The Assiniboia Livestock Auction held a pre-sorted Charolais cross and/or Angus cross calf and yearling sale on November 7 and a regular cull cow and bull sale on November 8 with 3,574 head sold at both sales.

The Assiniboia Livestock Auction held a pre-sorted Charolais cross and/or Angus cross calf and yearling sale on November 7 and a regular cull cow and bull sale on November 8 with 3,574 head sold at both sales. It also held a pre-sorted Angus and Angus cross calf sale on November 11 with 4,195 head sold.
At the November 7 sale, there were eight categories of steer calves and yearlings and eight categories of heifer calves and yearlings.
Steer calves in the weight category of 300 to 400 lbs. averaged $2.80 per lb. and sold up to $3.10 per lb. Those weighing between 400 and 450 lbs. averaged $2.79 per lb., selling up to $3.10 per lb. Steer calves in the weight category of 450 to 500 lbs. averaged $2.74 per lb., reaching $3.10 per lb., while those in the 500 to 550 lb. weight category sold on average at $2.52 per lb., and sold up to $2.81 per lb. Steer calves in the weight category of 550 to 600 lbs. averaged $2.29 per lb., reaching $2.77 per lb.
Steer yearlings in the weight category of 600 to 650 lbs. sold on average at $2.18 per lb., and sold up to $2.26 per lb. Steer yearlings in the weight category of 650 to 700 lbs. sold on average at $2.17 per lb. and sold up to $2.26 per lb., while those weighing 700 to 800 lbs. sold on average at $2.13 per lb., selling up to $2.20 per lb.
Heifer calves in the weight category of 300 to 400 lbs. averaged $2.41 per lb., and sold up to $2.53 per lb. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 450 lbs. averaged $2.33 per lb., reaching up to $2.57 per lb. Heifer calves weighing 450 to 500 lbs. sold on average at $2.20 per lb., selling up to $2.57 per lb., while those weighing 500 to 550 lbs. averaged $2.07 per lb., reaching $2.30 per lb.
Heifer yearlings in the 550 to 600 lb. weight category sold on average at $2.00 per lb., selling up to $2.30 per lb., while those in the 600 to 650 lb. weight category averaged $1.96 per lb., reaching $2.10 per lb. Heifer yearlings in the weight category of 650 to 700 lbs. sold on average at $1.90 per lb., reaching $1.99 per lb., while those weighing 700 to 800 lbs. averaged $1.89 per lb., selling up to $1.98 per lb.
At the November 8 regular sale, heiferettes sold between $1.30 per lb. and $1.39 per lb. D1 and D2 cows sold from $0.75 per lb. to $0.95 per lb. D3 cows sold between $0.25 per lb. and $0.55 per lb. Canner cows dropped to sell in a price range of between $0.05 per lb. to $0.20 per lb. Slaughter bulls ranged in price between $0.90 to $1.26 per lb.
At the November 11 sale, there were ten categories of steer calves and yearlings and nine categories of heifer calves and yearlings. Steer calves weighing between 300 and 400 lbs. averaged $2.76 per lb., selling up to $2.87 per lb. Those weighing between 400 and 450 lbs. averaged $2.66 per lb., selling up to $2.87 per lb. Steer calves in the weight category of 450 to 500 lbs. averaged $2.51 per lb., reaching $2.78 per lb., while those in the 500 to 550 lb. category sold on average at $2.41 per lb., selling up to $2.78 per lb.
Steer calves in the weight category of 550 to 600 lbs. averaged $2.27 per lb., and sold up to $2.52 per lb. Those in the weight category of 600 to 650 lbs. sold on average at $2.19 per lb., reaching $2.52 per lb. Steer yearlings in the weight category of 650 to 700 lbs. sold on average at $2.14 per lb. and sold up to $2.31 per lb., while those weighing 700 to 800 lbs. sold on average at $2.09 per lb., selling up to $2.22 per lb. Steer yearlings in the weight category of 800 to 900 lbs. averaged $2.06 per lb. and sold up to $2.15 per lb. Steer yearlings weighing over 900 lbs. averaged $1.76 per lb. and sold up to $2.05 per lb.
Heifer calves weighing 300 to 400 lbs. averaged $2.24 per lb. and sold up to $2.34 per lb. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 450 lbs. averaged $2.13 per lb., selling up to $2.17 per lb. Heifer calves weighing 450 to 500 lbs. sold on average at $2.02 per lb., selling up to $2.17 per lb., while those weighing 500 to 550 lbs. averaged $1.99 per lb., and sold up to $2.15 per lb.
Heifer yearlings in the 550 to 600 lb. weight category sold on average at $1.96 per lb., and sold up to $2.01 per lb., while those in the 600 to 650 lb. weight category averaged $1.93 per lb., reaching $2.03 per lb. Heifer yearlings in the weight category of 650 to 700 lbs. sold on average at $1.94 per lb., reaching $1.97 per lb. Those in the weight category of 700 to 800 lbs. averaged $1.95 per lb. and sold up to $1.97 per lb., while heifer yearlings weighing 800 to 900 lbs. averaged $1.84 per lb., and sold up to $1.88 per lb.
