Crescent Point cuts its rig fleet by about a third

Drilling activity in Saskatchewan continues to sputter at around the 40 rig mark, with 39 rigs working in the province as of July 10, according to sister publication Rig Locator.

The biggest shift has been Crescent Point Energy Corp., which has dramatically reduced its activity on the western half of the province. Their total rig count nation-wide is down from 23 to 16. One in in Manitoba near Birtle, the rest is in Saskatchewan. They currently have no rigs listed in the Shaunavon area, whereas usually they run three or four. They’re down to one in Kindersley area. The Stoughton area has the highest concentration, with eight in the area but five drilling within two miles of the town of Stoughton. Another concentration is in the Torquay play, with four rigs working there, around Oungre. Crescent Point has also apparently picked up at least part of now-acquired Legacy’s drilling program, with one rig working near North Portal. (One more rig is still listed as a Legacy rig, probably until it finishes this hole.)

In the northwest, Husky has two rigs working in the Edam and Celtic area. A total of five rigs are working in that area.

Kindersley has a concentration of nine rigs working, from the Kerrobert area to Plato. Teine and Raging River are the most active, but Caltex, Rock Energy, Beaumont Energy are also drilling.

In the southwest, Husky has a rig near Gull Lake, while Surge is drilling south of Shuanavon.

Back in the southeast, NAL has resumed drilling near Torquay, as has Torc Oil and Gas. Postell Energy is drilling southeast of Weyburn. Between Arcola and Lampman, Torc has another rig, while Freehold Royalties Ltd. has one as well. Spectrum is drilling south of Alameda, and Villanova 4 is drilling south of Oxbow. Spartan has one rig south of Manor.
