WEYBURN – The Weyburn U13 Red Devils delivered an impressive performance at the Aurora Open in Saskatoon this past weekend, demonstrating remarkable skill and team spirit.
The young athletes kicked off the round robin with vigor, securing two wins and a tie against formidable teams: Saskatoon's Aurora Ice, Aurora Horizon, and FCR Regina.
Their determination and strategic play earned them a coveted spot in the finals.
Although the championship match saw the Red Devils fall to Saskatoon's Aurora Ice with a score of 3-1, the outcome did little to dim the pride of Coach Tyler Hillstead.
Reflecting on the weekend, he praised the team’s cohesion and development, noting that the girls rallied together, showcasing not only their athletic abilities but also their admirable sportsmanship.
Coach Hillstead emphasized that the tournament was more than just a series of games; it was a testament to the team's growth and unity.
“This weekend, the girls didn't just play soccer – they played for each other, and that’s what made all the difference," he said.
His pride in their performance was noticeable as he spoke of the team’s good showing and the potential he sees in his young squad.
“The U13 Red Devils return from the Aurora Open with more than just their scores; they bring back valuable experience, heightened team spirit, and the respect of their community and competitors alike,” Hillstead added.
