WEYBURN – The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings won and lost over the weekend, including a loss on home ice on Friday evening to the Battlefords North Stars, and an overtime shootout win over the Yorkton Terriers on Saturday night.
In hosting the North Stars, Jakob Kalin scored the Wings’ lone goal of the night on the power play, with only 41 seconds left in the period.
He was assisted by Ryley Morgan and Elijah Anderson.
The North Stars then erupted for four unanswered goals in the second period, then two more were scored in the third period.
Matt Schoephoerster was in goal for the night, and saved 40 of the 46 shots made on net.
In Yorkton, the Terriers were first on the board after a scoreless first period, then captain Matthew Reidy tied the game with an unassisted goal. Yorkton scored again only 18 seconds later.
Kalin scored 16 minutes into the third period to tie the game and send it into overtime, where there was no scoring.
This sent the match to a shootout, and Kalin scored after Ty Mason and Jackson Hassman shot but weren’t able to put the puck in the net. Kalin was named the game’s first star.
Dazza Mitchell was in net for the full game plus the overtime period, and saved 27 of the 29 shots made on net.
