WEYBURN – The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings had a win and a loss in weekend action on home ice.
They doubled up the Kindersley Klippers 4-2 on Friday night, which was also teddy bear toss night, and then were edged out 3-2 by the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday night.
The Klippers wasted no time starting the scoring 12 seconds into the game, but then newly-acquired Ryley Morgan began scoring a hattrick on the night with a goal at 1:20, from Matteo Turrin and Ty Mason, and then again at 11:52 from Nicholas Kovacs and Turrin.
The Klippers tied the game with seven seconds to go in the first period.
Morgan completed his hattrick in the second period, again assisted by Turin, and Elijah Anderson added a goal 1:17 into the third period, assisted by Simon Pollock.
Dazza Mitchell was in net for the full 60 minutes, saving 23 of 25 shots.
In Saturday’s game, the Mustangs and Red Wings each scored in the first period, with Pollock putting the puck in the net at 16:03, assisted by Anderson.
Kovacs scored in the second period on the powerplay, assisted by Jackson Hassman and Mi-Kwan Tallman.
Melfort tied the game on the powerplay in the third period, and then scored the game-winning goal at 12:47.
Matt Schoephoerster was in goal for the game, and was pulled with 52 seconds in the game for the extra attacker. He saved 19 of the 22 shots that came his way.
The next action for the Red Wings will be to host the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday, Dec. 16, then they go on the road to Humboldt to play the Broncos on Dec. 17 in their final game before the Christmas break.
