WEYBURN - The Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Red Wings have played three pre-season games so far, winning twice against their Highway 39 rivals (Estevan Bruins) and then losing 3-0 to the Yorkton Terries on Friday night.

Players are excited for the start of the regular season of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

“It will be nice to have a full season, and not just five games,” said Jakob Kalin, left wing, with the Weyburn Red Wings.

This will be the second year on the team for the 19-year-old Kalin.

“I am excited to see the stands packed this year. I am looking forward to meeting all the guys on the team, and the new players that have been added.”

“I am looking forward to playing hockey and winning games with the boys. The team is looking really good this year,” said Joseph Young, veteran goaltender.

Playing his third year in the net for the Wings, Young has loved playing in Weyburn.

“We have a great group of guys. Every single year, I have made so many friends on this team.”

It is also really close to home for him, as the 20-year-old goaltender lives in Regina.

“I am looking forward to having a fresh start here in Saskatchewan,” said Simon Pollock, forward.  “I am looking forward to getting my foot in the league, and seeing how I do here. I am hoping for a great season with the Red Wings.”

Pollock is 17-years-old and was recently acquired from the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL.

Last season, Pollock played 10 games in the BCHL club with Cowichan Valley, picking up an assist. Before joining the Capitals, Pollock played 10 games with the Victoria Cougars of the VIJHL, where he had three goals and three assists.

“It should a good season. We have a great group of guys, and a great team this year,” said Jacob Jakusz, defenseman.

“I am looking forward to getting to know the guys on the team more. It seems like it is a great group. It should be a great season.”

Jakusz is a 19-year-old rookie blueliner, who will play his first season with the Red Wings this year. He played junior hockey in Wisconsin before coming to Saskatchewan.

The Wings hosted Notre Dame during a home pre-season game on Tuesday night. They will be in Notre Dame for another pre-season game tonight, Sept. 15.

Their last pre-season game will be Sunday, Sept. 19 against Estevan, before the season officially begins on Sept. 24.
