Weyburn pitcher Jorde Chartrand transfers to U of North Carolina

Weyburn pitcher Jorde Chartrand is transferring to the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) softball team from the University of Central Arkansas.

WEYBURN – The University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) softball team and head coach  announced the addition of three transfers to the program for the 2022-23 academic year, including pitcher Jorde Chartrand from Weyburn.
Sophomore pitcher Jorde Chartrand is transferring in from the University of Central Arkansas, where the team finished 37-21 overall and 17-7 in the ASUN. The Sugar Bears competed in the National Invitational Softball Championships (NISC), finishing third overall.

Chartrand played in seven games this past season for the Sugar Bears, starting in two with 21 strikeouts and two complete games. She had a 9-0 five-inning victory over Memphis and a 15-0 five-inning win against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Earlier this week, Chartrand was the named Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Conference (SoCon) softball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference. Chartrand's honor is the Spartans' sixth of the season.

Chartrand batted .438, had an on-base percentage of .500 and slugged .875 in five games last week as the Spartans went 3-2. On Wednesday in a doubleheader at Radford, Chartrand went 2-for-4 in each game as UNCG won game one, 8-2, before dropping game two 5-4.
Her two hits in game one were both two-run home runs, one coming in the second inning and the other was in the seventh, accounting for four RBIs. In game two, Chartrand had an RBI single in the first inning and another single in the fifth.

Chartrand also tossed 9.1 innings last week in the circle across three games, giving up just eight hits and four runs with one of them being earned. She struck out four batters, with two against Radford in game two and two against Samford on Saturday. Her ERA for the week was 0.75 and earned a 1-1 record in the circle.

She is currently leading the team with a .375 batting average, .573 slugging percentage, and has a .423 on base percentage. She has hit five home runs, four doubles and is one of nine Spartans with double digit RBI.
Chartrand is from Weyburn, where she attended Weyburn Comprehensive School and graduated in 2021.

She was awarded the 222's Fastpitch Rayzors Edge Award and selected as the top U16 Canadian pitcher in 2019 earning an invitation to the Canada Junior National Team Camp.

She was named to the Canadian National Team that competed in the 2022 Celebration Tour and the Canada Cup International Softball Championship.
