WEYBURN - Teams from the Weyburn Comprehensive School had a busy weekend of competition, and as an added bonus, the senior boys and girls volleyball teams won this year’s Co-op Challenge on Tuesday night.
In the first set of games for the Co-op Challenge, the senior boys beat Estevan 25-23, 25-17 and 25-16 to win in three sets.
In the second half of games, the senior girls beat Estevan 26-24, 10-25, 15-25, 25-16 and 15-12 to win in five sets. Combined with the wins in Estevan last Thursday, this gave the 2021 Co-op Challenge victory to the Comp Eagles teams.
The Comp Eagles Junior Varsity team played its final game on Tuesday night and came away with a 14-7 win over Moose Jaw Central.
A solid defensive effort on both sides saw offenses struggle moving the ball. Scoring touchdowns for Weyburn was Liam Maloney and Spencer Bell.
The Intermediate Boys Volleyball team won the tournament in Moose Jaw over the weekend, with a 5-1 record in the round robin.
The Senior Girls Volleyball team played in Regina at the Campbell Invitational Tournament. The Eagles had a 3 -1 record to finished second in their pool and moved on to the playoff round.
The team lost a close match in the quarter final and won their next two matches to place fifth overall with a 5-2 record.
The Senior B girls team played in a tournament in Moosomin on the weekend. The girls finished third in their pool, only losing to the two teams who would eventually play for the championship.
The team played Lampman in the quarter-finals, beating them in two sets. The Eagles then advanced to play Grenfell in the ‘A’ side semi-final.
The team played a great game against Grenfell with a lot of great rallies, hits and digs but came up short of the win. The Eagles will play again in their home tournament on Oct. 15 and 16.
