WEYBURN – The Weyburn Senior Beavers put together a four-game winning streak in the past week of play in the Western Canadian Baseball League, before the Regina Red Sox put an end to the wins on Sunday afternoon.
The Beavers hosted the Edmonton Prospects for back-to-back games at Tom Laing Park, winning 2-1 on Thursday and 6-5 in extra innings on Friday night.
They travelled to Moose Jaw on Saturday and posted an 8-4 win, and were back on home field on Sunday afternoon for the game against the Red Sox.
In the Thursday night game, Josh Wintroub was on the mound for the Beavers for seven inning, allowing four hits, one run and getting nine strike-outs. Matthew Armendariz pitched for one inning in relief, getting one strike-out, and Ben Franz finished up on the mound.
The scoring came from two home runs, by catcher Koby Kropf and infielder Caelan Dalman.
On Friday night, runs were scored by infielders Braeden Cordes (two), Nolan Machibroda (two) and Dalman, and from outfielder Will Baker, with Machibroda getting two RBIs, along with Dalman and Patryk Hernandez.
On the mound, Mason Chamberlain pitched for six innings, allowing six hits, one run and getting three strike-outs, and David Dawson pitched for 2.1 innings and was credited with the win, allowing three hits, no runs and getting one strike-out.
In Moose Jaw, runs were scored by Machibroda, Trent Williams, Dalman, Konner McLellin (two), Simon Virostek and Baker (two), with RBIs scored by Cordes, catcher Nick Baker, Williams, Armendariz and Will Baker.
Pitching duties were spread out among four players, with Jared Eifler pitching for two innings, John Nicholson for 3.2 innings, Armendariz for 2.1 innings and Cordes for one inning. The win was credited to Nicholson.
On Sunday, runs were scored by Machibroda, Nick Baker, Travis Moore and Cale Yuzdepski, with one RBI by Will Baker.
Jace Wessels handled the pitching duties for five innings, with Virostek and Carter Sorensen each pitching for two. Wessels was the losing pitcher for this game.
The Beavers play in Swift Current on Monday night, and will be at home to the 57s on Tuesday night.
