Weyburn Artistic Swimming’s competitive club attended the Sadie Caulder Knight Provincials held in Regina over the April 9-10 weekend, and brought home a number of medals, including gold and silver.
Saturday began with the figure competition for each age group, with the following results: For 12U: Ava Donison placed 15th, Sierra Dammann came in 19th; for 15U: Ella Leko placed 10th, Lily Popescu was 16th, and Avery Wilson came in 22nd.
Saturday evening started the excitement of routines.
In the 12U Duet: Ava Donison and Sierra Dammann placed sixth, scoring 50.0666. They were coached by Megan Dammann.
For 15U solos, Lily Popescu won first place (Gold medal), scoring 57.0167. She was coached by Tracey Rothwell.
In addition, Avery Wilson placed fourth, scoring 54.3167, and she was also coached by Tracey Rothwell.
Sunday morning started off with the Junior Free duets.
Payton Caldwell and Ella Leko placed second (Silver Medal), scoring 57.9, coached by Kim Neithercut and Meagan Rothwell; Megan Dammann and Marley Kradovill placed fifth, scoring 54.9333, coached by Kim Neithercut and Meagan Rothwell.
The final event was the Team competition, with the Â鶹´«Ã½AV East Connections Team winning the Gold medal in the Junior Free Team event with a score of 58.4833.
This team was formed with athletes from Weyburn Artistic Swimming club and Estevan Mermaids for the 2022 SK Winter Games. With the postponement of the Games, the team chose to continue through the season. They are coached by Kim Neithercut and Meagan Rothwell.
WASC, their athletes, coaches and family members are very proud of the accomplishments and successes of all of the athletes this weekend.
The athletes will be traveling to Winnipeg on April 29, 30 and May 1 for the Canadian Prairie Championship (CPC) to complete their competitive season.
