Weekend tourney in Arcola

With a busy hockey weekend for some families it was nice to just be a short distance from home, especially with the possibility of 3 games.

With a busy hockey weekend for some families it was nice to just be a short distance from home, especially with the possibility of 3 games. So off we went 10 minutes west, ok that was if you were late, right Zane, off to Arcola rink for the 9 am game against the Jr. Combines. We were in for a treat this morning, Phyllis Cameron's cinnamon buns still warm from the oven, and a fantastic game from both teams, great goal tending, fast paced end to end action, and some pretty tight scoring, in the end Arcola would squeak out the win.

Being so close to home it was nice to be able to head home or if you were so lucky go to the Carlyle rink and watch the 10 under action, with their 2 day tournament under way.

The boys looked fresh and ready for their 2 o'clock game against Estevan, if they pull off the win they play again at 4 and it's a rematch with Arcola, some people are more excited about this prospect than others. Well if we thought the boys played a good game this morning, they played an excellent game this afternoon. It was so fun and exciting to watch, they hustled and passed and really played as a team. They came through with the win, and after they dog piled our goalie and shook hands, they headed down to the dressing room for a little break and a snack, a pep talk and a little energy, they would have to dig deep for this game.

Out they come chanting "Cougars, Cougars, Cougars", getting pumped up to play hard, and that they did. It was another good game, we had some good solid shots on net, but their goalie was strong. The boys had good hustle and heart, they were in the corners digging their butts off. It was a long day and 3 games with 2 back to back is a lot to ask of these kids but they did their best, but they couldn't pull off the win. All in all it was a great day with great hockey with great kids.

See you at the rink
