University basketball coming to Estevan

Regina Cougars to face Toronto Varsity Blues at ECS

The University of Regina's men's basketball team has announced that it will host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in a non-conference game in Estevan on Thursday, Oct. 14.

The Cougars and the Varsity Blues will play at Estevan Comprehensive School with a tip-off time of 7 p.m. All proceeds from the game will go towards enhancing basketball in the community of Estevan.

"We have alumni and supporters in Estevan, and it's nice to be able to get down there and play in front of people who might not be able to get up to Regina to catch a game" Cougars head coach James Hillis said. "It's a great opportunity to make some presentations at the school and promote the University of Regina and our basketball team."

The Cougars finished in third place in Canada West's Prairie Division last season with a 10-10 record. The team's top returning players will be fifth-year post Kris Heshka and fifth-year shooting guard Jeff Lukomski. Hillis is entering his 17th season as the program's head coach.

The University of Toronto, led by seventh-year head coach Mike Katz, placed third in the East Division of Ontario University Athletics with a 12-10 record last year. A trio of third-year players is expected to lead the Varsity Blues, including guard Drazen Glisic, post Andrew Wasik, and guard Justin Holmes.

Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. They'll be available at Estevan Comprehensive, Henders Drugs, or by phone at 634-4761.
