Lafleche Minor Hockey had a fantastic 2016/2017 season, winning two Wood River Minor Hockey League Championships — the Â鶹´«Ã½AVwest Saskatchewan Hockey League Championship, and the Bantam D Provincial Title. Lafleche now has nearly 100 children making up its minor hockey association, ranging in age from Little Tykes to Bantam.
The Little Tykes and Learn to Skate program was very well organized and fun once again thanks to all of the volunteer teachers and parents. The association was fortunate to have two Initiation teams in Lafleche this season due to the large numbers of registrants. Both teams played a great season and made it to playoffs. At the end of league play, Lafleche Red placed second and Lafleche Black placed third. The two teams ended up playing each other in the semi-final. It was a hard-fought series, with Red ending up defeating Black. The Red team then lost to Mossbank in the final.
Lafleche novice team had a great season, placing second after league play. They went on to win the Wood River East Division against Mossbank, which put them up against the West Division’s Shaunavon. After another tough series, they won the Wood River League Championship title. The atom team also had a very successful season, going undefeated in league play that placed them in first place overall. The team came up against Coronach in the league final and took the series two games to one to capture the Wood River League Championship title. The peewee team consisted of players from Kincaid, Glentworth and Lafleche. The team also had a great season and narrowly missed making the Â鶹´«Ã½AVwest Saskatchewan League playoffs.
The Wood River Rustlers Bantam team consisted of players from Mossbank, Gravelbourg, Limerick, Kincaid, Hazenmore, Mankota and Lafleche. They had a super year, finishing first after league play, then they went on to win both the league and province. They defeated Maple Creek for the Â鶹´«Ã½AVwest Saskatchewan League Championship, and Macklin for the SHA Provincial D Championship. The Lafleche Minor Hockey Association has expressed its appreciation to everyone in the community who helped to make the season run smoothly.
