As with past years, it seems the Carlyle Cardinals are the only team that can consistently defeat the Estevan Tower Wolves in the Saskota Baseball League.

The Cardinals routed the Tower Wolves 9-3 Thursday at Lynn Prime Park.

Carlyle improves to a league-best 9-1-1, while Estevan (7-3) falls into a tie for third with the Lampman Pirates.

The Tower Wolves also defeated the Kenosee Cubs 4-2 last Tuesday.

Kris Keating pitched a complete game for the Wolves, but "was victimized by some walks, a strong-hitting Carlyle team and some poor defence behind him," according to Wolves coach Devin Aspinall.

Estevan committed five errors on the night.

Carlyle opened the scoring with a run in the first inning and added two more in the second.

Estevan got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the second.

The Cardinals piled on three more runs in the fourth, but Estevan responded with two of their own to make it 6-3 for Carlyle after four.

Keating and Aspinall each hit RBI singles in the fourth, but the Wolves left the bases loaded in what seems to be a recurring theme this season.

Carlyle put the game away with a three-run seventh inning.

The Wolves were set to begin their quest for the provincials last night, with the Regina Red Sox coming to town for the first game of a best-of-three first-round qualifying series.

Estevan will move on to a second round of qualifying if they win.

The squad was also scheduled to host the Redvers A's on Tuesday, three hours before the provincial game.

They also host the Oxbow Chiefs on Thursday and the Pirates next Tuesday. Game times are 8 p.m and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
