WEYBURN – The Canadian Women’s National Softball Team, including Weyburn’s Jorde Chartrand, will play in the fifth-place game on Wednesday, after defeating Mexico 8-1 in six innings at Hoover Met Stadium on Tuesday morning.
Canada’s offence scored five runs in the bottom of the first and the pitching tandem of Morgan Rackel of Calgary, and Ruby Anderson of Victoria, B.C., limited Mexico to only three hits in the run rule victory.
With the win, Canada advanced to the fifth-place game on Wednesday to take on the winner of the game between Puerto Rico and Italy.
On Monday night, the Canadian Women’s National Softball Team was defeated by the United States 10-2 in five innings at Hoover Met Stadium in Birmingham, Ala.
The loss eliminated Team Canada (1-2) from the medal round, and they faced Mexico (0-3) in the consolation round on Tuesday morning.
Rackel started the game in the circle for Canada, allowing five runs on five hits with two strikeouts in two innings and a third, while Jorde Chartrand of Weyburn allowed three runs on one hit and a strikeout in an inning and a third.
The Canadian Women’s National Softball Team split their first two games at the World Games, with a loss to Chinese Taipei on Saturday, and a win over Italy on Sunday.
The ladies began the World Games 2022 with a 9-4 loss to Chinese Taipei at the Hoover Met Softball Stadium.
Chartrand started the game in the circle for Canada and allowed five runs on seven hits, with one strikeout in two innings and two thirds. Morgan Rackel of Calgary relieved Chartrand in the third, yielding four runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out two in two innings and a third.
