The La Ronge Ice Wolves got three goals in the second period en route to a 4-2 victory over the Estevan Bruins on Saturday at Spectra Place.
After falling behind 4-0 early in the third, the Bruins launched a comeback bid but their two goals weren't enough to overcome the deficit.
The Bruins (14-9) fell to second place in the Sherwood Conference behind Weyburn, while La Ronge (13-11-0-2) pulled into a three-way tie for third place in the Bauer Conference.
After creating plenty of chances in a scoreless first period, the Wolves broke the game open in the second, beginning with a power-play goal from reigning SJHL MVP Marc-Andre Carre in his second game after being cut from the Central Hockey League's Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.
Graham Smerek made it 2-0 just 81 seconds later on a wraparound. Then, at the 14:55 mark, Skyler Hladun's off-target shot bounced off Bruins forward Ben Johnstone and was stopped by goalie Derek Tendler before ricocheting onto the stick of Nathan Boyer for the Wolves' third goal.
Recent acquisition Zac Ashdown made it 4-0 for La Ronge early in the third period when he lifted a Carre rebound over Tendler.
The Bruins' comeback began at the 7:38 mark when Wolves goalie Alex Rajotte swatted at an airborne puck and inadvertently knocked it into his own net. The goal was credited to Calder Neufeld.
Less than two minutes later, Ryan Ostertag made it a two-goal game on a quick snipe into the far top corner off the rush.
Shots on goal were 39-34 for La Ronge.
