WEYBURN – Kevin Folk presented the “Perry Folk Fellowship Award” to Don Mackinnon on Wednesday, meeting in his garage.
The award is presented in memory of Kevin’s brother Perry, to a golf club patron “who through personal interaction, friendly demeanor and positive attitude, enhances the clubhouse atmosphere and experience.”
One wall of the garage has a blackboard on it, covered in signatures by many of Mackinnon’s family and friends, and he accepted the award in front of the board.
Mackinnon said he was honoured and humbled to have his name put forward for this award.
“It’s very humbling. I knew Perry’s dad Ben, and he was a good friend,” he added, noting he was out on the golf course, on the third hole, when Kevin phoned and informed him he would be receiving the award this year.
Kevin explained that Don’s name was put forward by a number of people as he helped to look after the senior men’s golf held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and noted his name had also been put forward last year by fellow golfers.
“I’m out there five or six days a week,” Mackinnon said. “I like to brighten everybody’s day when I’m at the golf course.”
He added he has a few names he would like nominate for this award for next year’s presentation.
