To call it a good week for the Estevan Sherritt Coal peewee AA Bruins would be an understatement.
First, on Wednesday, the Bruins doubled up the Weyburn Youngfellows 6-3 at Spectra Place to win their first-round provincial series by a 13-7 total.
Then the Bruins achieved their crowning moment so far this season by winning the B side championship at the Regina Pats Peewee AA Classic on the weekend.
The tournament included 32 teams from all across Western Canada. The Bruins posted a 4-1-1 record, culminating in a 5-0 victory over the Winnipeg Twins in the B final.
Preston Brodziak scored twice for Estevan in the final, with Josh Skjonsby, Shae Little and Hunter Piche adding singles.
The Bruins edged the Saskatoon Express 2-1 in the B semi. Cole Fonstad opened the scoring, with Skjonsby potting the eventual winner on a highlight-reel goal set up by Fonstad and Brodziak.
In the B quarter-final, the Bruins dumped the Medicine Hat Venom white team 5-2. Skjonsby, Brodziak, Brady Long, Dylan Emmel and Brayden Pachal lit the lamp for Estevan.
The Bruins posted a 1-1-1 record in the round-robin. The first game was a 3-3 tie against the Regina Sabres, with Brodziak (2) and Sage Dayman scoring for the Bruins.
Estevan won their second game 4-2 over the Taber Golden Suns. Piche (2), Fonstad and Brodziak supplied the Bruin goals.
The final round-robin game saw the Bruins get dumped 7-1 by the Winnipeg North-West Stars. The Bruins were short four players due to suspensions and injuries. Colton Schell had the lone Estevan goal.
Goaltenders Ethan Veroba and Zach Miller were both outstanding throughout the tournament and each were named game MVP several times.
In Wednesday's provincial game, the Bruins came out flying with four goals in the first 14 minutes.
They held a 4-1 lead after the first and a 5-2 cushion after the second.
Pachal, Skjonsby, Ryder Pierson, Jayden Davis, Fonstad and Little were the Estevan scorers. Kane Altwasser, Luke Niemegeers and Tristyn Deroose scored for Weyburn.
The Bruins will likely play Yorkton in the second round, but those games will not be played until after Feb. 20.
