Estevan Minor Football is kick-starting a flag football program that it hopes will introduce local kids to the sport.
More than 70 players had signed up for the league as of last week, with last-minute registrations possibly boosting that number as high as 90.
The non-contact, no blocking league is free and is aimed at getting more kids to play football and teaching them the fundamentals of the game.
"If you can introduce kids to it at the grassroots level, hopefully it helps us with our skill and our numbers going forward," said EMF president Steve McLellan.
"It's informal compared to (the minor football and high school seasons)."
The program will feature two divisions, one for ages six to nine and another for ages nine to 13.
There will be four teams in each division, named after Canadian Football League clubs.

An orientation session for the flag football league was held last night.
"The idea is primarily for the younger kids to get accustomed to what we're going to do," said McLellan.
All practices and games will be held on Friday nights at the EMF practice field.
The first practice is this Friday at 6:30 p.m. It will give each team a chance to work on drills together and get familiar with one another.
On May 13, May 27 and June 3, team practices will be held at 5:30 p.m., followed by intramural games at 6:30 p.m.
Having the practices and games back-to-back allows the players to immediately apply what they have learned to a game situation.
A round-robin will be played on June 11, followed by a wind-up barbecue.
