Minor football field hit by flooding

Estevan Minor Football is hoping for the best after its playing facilities were swamped by the massive flooding that hit the Woodlawn area last week.

It's too early to tell if any damage was sustained, especially with the road to the field being nearly impassable, but EMF president Steve McLellan is optimistic.

"From what I understand, it looks pretty devastating, but I don't think it's as bad as it looks. If anything, it just gives us a leg up on having to water everything," he said.

"We're not anticipating it to affect us too much, other than the delay in development of the fields for the year."
McLellan was out of the city when the flooding hit during the middle of last week, but he believes everything is under control.

"I talked to some people (on Monday) and from what I understand, they had moved most of the equipment to higher ground within the facility, so I'm hoping it should be okay," the president said.

It's believed the concession area may have sustained minor damage. It's also not known if the new locker room area was affected, but with a concrete floor, McLellan said it should be fine.

"There's not a lot of drywall in there that would be ruined."

The practice field on the other side of Highway 47 collected minimal water last week.
