ASSINIBOIA - The Richardson Pioneer Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Rebels lost in a lopsided 6-1 game, against the Pilot Butte Storm during a home game on Nov. 30. Jayden Lupuliak (assisted by Aidan Sigfusson) broke the shut-out for the Rebels, with a power play goal early in the final frame, with the scoreboard reading 6-1 as the seconds ticked down in regulation time.
The match up had its rough moments, including the Storm’s Kaiden Malysh and Rebel Brock Smith both seeing time in the sin bin for roughing penalties. Late in the third period, Rebel Matt Mohart also served time for a hit to the head, resulting in a 10-minute misconduct for the action.
After a couple days rest to the team, the visiting Regina Capitals were bent on not making things easy during a game on Dec. 1. By the middle of the second period, Regina was up 4-0, and tensions were running high. The Rebels took advantage of having the extra man opportunity, with a couple power play goals courtesy Lupuliak (from Logan Fontaine and Evan Krasowski), then again from Fontaine (assisted by Lupuliak and Rhett Franklin).
The Capitals would go on to increase their lead in the third period, and stop Assiniboia despite best efforts. The Capitals took to their bus with a 5-2 win.
The Rebels rounded out their at-home weekend, hosting the Delisle Chiefs for the first time. The initial meeting with the Chiefs on the road resulted in a 5-1 loss for the Rebels, and they were hungry for a win. Delisle wracked up three goals before the Rebels could break the shut-out with a power play goal from Chase Tenetuik (assisted by Trae DeDecker). However, the third frame was all Chiefs, earning a 7-1 win.
Saturday’s game also saw the big draws in the Smiles Per Mile Lotto, with a local winning the top prize. Walter Weiss of Assiniboia won $25,000; the 50/50 prize went to Craig and Calinda Nielsen of Esterhazy; Will and Elaine Bisschop-Sheo won $1,000; Linda Timmerman from Saskatoon won $500; and two draws of $250 were won by Jeanne Timmerman of Saskatoon and Dave Mohart of Regina.
The Rebels’ next home game will be Dec. 16 when they host Fort Knox.
