Despite the objections of the Yorkton Cardinals and their boisterous fans, Tanner Odgers of the Estevan Bantam AAA Haulers was correctly called safe on this stolen base attempt during Regina Baseball League action Saturday at Cactus Park.

The Estevan Sherritt Coal Haulers have been busy of late, playing games to make up for the many rain delays that have wreaked havoc on their bantam AAA baseball season.

The Haulers travelled to Weyburn on Thursday afternoon to complete a doubleheader, originally scheduled for July 29.

Down 7-2 in the top of the seventh inning, the Haulers came very close to completing a comeback, scoring four runs with their final at bat, only to lose a heartbreaker 7-6.

Game two wasn?t nearly as close, as Weyburn scored 12 in the third inning, adding to their already-hefty 11-2 lead. The home team went on to win 28-3 after only four innings of play.

On Saturday, the Yorkton Cardinals came to Estevan to make up the two games that were originally slotted to open the season.

Late-game rallies by both teams made for an exciting finish in game one. Estevan scored five runs in the sixth inning, only to have Yorkton score six in the seventh to tie the game at nine with one Estevan at-bat remaining.

The Haulers refused to let another one slip away, as Kale Little reached base on a walk, and then came around to score the winning run.

Game two wasn?t so close, as Yorkton jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third inning. The Cardinals added three in the fifth and four in the sixth to go up 12-2, handing the Haulers their second mercy loss in three days.
