The Golden Eagles Volleyball Club finished up it's first season this past weekend. The Club began this past December when eight non-suspecting young women ages 17 and 18 came together. They came from the east, they came from the west, they came together not all knowing each other, but having one common interest: the love for the game and the desire to play volleyball.

We signed up for the new SVA Recreation Division developed and ran by the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association geared to accommodate multi-sport athletes. Altogether, 7 teams registered in the division representing several areas and communities across the province. We practiced, and attended our first tournament March 20th in Rosetown. A well represented tournament with teams from Rosetown, Warman, Bruno, Fort Quappelle, and the Golden Eagles, from Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Saskatchewan. We placed third! Quite a nice placement!

This past weekend, we attended provincials in Saskatoon. A grueling one day tournament. In all, we played 7 sets, each the best of 3, over a span of 13 hours. We placed 4th in the round robin going into the playoffs. We won our first playoff game against Fort Fusion. We then faced the number one team, Regina Shock, and gave them a run for their money. This gave us a birth into the bronze medal game against Regina Voltage. Exhausted from the full day, the girls stayed focused and energized. We came up 2 points short, 13-15, in the third and deciding game. A disappointing loss. Nevertheless, an almost third place in the province is an excellent accomplishment. Well done Eagles!
