ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins scored three times in the opening six minutes of the third period to pick up a 4-3 victory over the Yorkton Terriers Saturday night at Affinity Place.
Yorkton scored three times in the opening 12:13 of the first period to grab a 3-0 lead. Logan Cyca opened the scoring 4:36 into the game. Former Bruin Erik Boers doubled the lead a few minutes later and Kishaun Gervais added to the Terriers' advantage.
Alex Von Sprecken scored for the Bruins before the period was out to give the Bruins some life.
Estevan started to take over during the second, and only some bad puck luck prevented the club from drawing closer, as the Bruins hit the post three times in the first half of the frame.
The Bruins' Mark Rumsey and Cody Davis scored 40 seconds apart in the opening two minutes of the third period to tie the game. Mikol Sartor then gave the Bruins their first lead of the night with 14 minutes to play.
Estevan had chances to extend the lead, but couldn’t convert, while Yorkton had opportunities to tie the game, including a breakaway shortly after Sartor’s goal, but Boston Bilous came up with a timely save.
Estevan outshot Yorkton 17-7 in the third.
Bilous made 26 saves for the Bruins, while Kael DePape stopped 38 shots for Yorkton.
The Bruins (21-5-1-1) have won four straight games and will return to the ice Tuesday against the Notre Dame Hounds, while the Terriers (12-13-0-3) will play again Friday night at the Melville Millionaires.
