ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins have announced that graduating forward Eddie Gallagher of St. Albert, Alta., has committed to the Northland College LumberJacks program for the 2021-22 season.

Located in Ashland, Wisconsin, the LumberJacks play in the Wisconsin Intercollege Athletic Conference (WIAC), which is an NCAA Division III school.

Seamus Gregory, Northland College’s director of athletics and men’s hockey head coach, is pleased to welcome Gallagher to Northland College.

“We couldn’t be more excited to add Eddie to our program. Coming into this season, we need to be better, we targeted players who we felt can step in and make an immediate impact and Eddie can do just that for us,” said Gregory. “He has the skill, work ethic and determination to play at the next level and he is committed to getting better each day.

“We have had great success in recruiting quality persons from the SJHL and Eddie too will fit in the room just fine. Anytime we can add a player from a proud franchise and city like Estevan, it’s very positive.”

Gallagher (5’10”, 175 pounds) played three seasons for the Bruins from 2018-19 to 2020-21. The speedy and skilled forward put up good numbers in his rookie season, with seven goals and 18 points in 43 games while playing down the depth chart with limited powerplay time.

After earning a more prominent offensive role in his second season, Gallagher’s game went to a new level as he finished second in team scoring with 15 goals and 50 points in 56 games, while only taking four penalty minutes all season. Gallagher then put up five points in Estevan’s four playoff games before the rest of the playoffs were cancelled.

Gallagher then started the shortened 2020-21 season with four goals and nine points in six games before the season was suspended and then cancelled.

“We are very happy to see Eddie will be continuing his hockey career at the college level. Northland has an excellent program and we look forward to watching his college career after a successful run in Estevan,” said Bruins head coach and general manager Jason Tatarnic.

Gallagher is the second Bruins’ player from the 2020-21 season to commit to postsecondary hockey, as Kade McMillen committed to the Trinity Western University Spartans earlier this offseason.
