WARMAN - The Estevan Bruins dropped both of their games at the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's annual Showcase in Warman.
The Bruins' first game was a 5-2 loss to the La Ronge Ice Wolves Tuesday afternoon.
Antoine St. Onge scored 4:18 into the opening frame to give the Bruins a 1-0 advantage. La Ronge replied with two goals 13 seconds apart in the second to take the lead. Aaron Greyeyes and Mason Bueckertt scored for La Ronge.
It remained a 2-1 game until three minutes into the third period, when Mark Rumsey scored for Estevan.
La Ronge took the lead for good with less than seven minutes to play in the third on a goal by Joshua Singh. Gavin Mattey added an empty netter with less than 90 seconds to play, and Nolan Doell finished the scoring with 20 seconds to play.
Boston Bilous stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced. Xavier Cannon made 33 saves for La Ronge.
The Bruins were back on the ice about 18 hours later in a 3-2 loss to the Humboldt Broncos Wednesday morning. Connor McGrath scored twice in the opening 16 minutes of the game to give the Broncos a 2-0 edge. Caelan Fitzpatrick pulled the Bruins to within one with 82 seconds to play in the opening frame.
McGrath completed the hat trick with a goal 40 seconds into the second period, but Griffin Asham-Moroz scored midway through the period to pull the Bruins to within one.
Neither team scored the rest of the way.
Cam Hrdlicka made 31 saves for the Bruins in his SJHL debut. Rayce Ramsay made 33 saves for Humboldt.
Estevan (3-2) will look to rebound when they host the Weyburn Red Wings Friday night at Affinity Place. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
