ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins picked up their fifth straight victory Wednesday night with a 4-2 win over the Weyburn Red Wings at Affinity Place.
Mitch Kohner opened the scoring with a minute to play in the first period – his first goal as a member of the Bruins.
The Black and Gold had multiple opportunities to add to the lead in the second, but hit the post twice, and were stymied by Weyburn goaltender Jackson Fellner, who finished with 43 saves on the night.
Estevan finally broke through with roughly five minutes to play in the second, when captain Eric Houk scored.
Goals by Kade Runke and Keagon Little in the third period gave the Bruins some breathing room, but 26 seconds after Little scored, former Estevan Steelhaus U18 AAA Bears forward Cooper Chisholm tallied to put the Wings on the board, and a couple of minutes later, Sebastian Hamming scored on a power play to add a little suspense to the game.
Cam Hrdlicka made 24 saves for the Bruins.
Estevan will be back on the ice Thursday night when they host the Yorkton Terriers. Game time will be 7 p.m. Weyburn will visit the league-leading Humboldt Broncos Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
