The Estevan Eclipse Downhole Solutions U18 AAA Bears came up with one of the most impressive weekends in their young history, sweeping home games against the Swift Current Legionnaires.

The Bears won 5-4 in a shootout on Friday night and 5-4 again on Saturday afternoon.

Friday’s game was a back and forth contest. Estevan led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Carson Birnie and Tristan Grohs, and added to the lead in the second when Marshall Light scored.

Swift Current stormed back in the third, scoring three unanswered goals to lead 4-3. Hudson Darby’s goal with 1:41 to play in the third gave the visitors the 4-3 advantage. But Boston Harkness scored with 43 seconds remaining in the frame to tie the game again.

After overtime solved nothing, Estevan outscored Swift Current 3-2 in the shootout. Harkness, Light and Caden Drury had the goals.

Harkness had two goals on Saturday, including the game-winning marker with 17 seconds to play in the third period.

Swift Current led 2-1 after the first period, with Blaze Gutzke tallying for Estevan. Drury, Birnie and Harkness tallied in the second for Estevan, who led 4-3 after 40 minutes.

Swift Current tied the game in the third, and it appeared the contest would be headed to overtime until Harkness’ point shot found a way into the net.

Kaden Perron was in goal for both games. He stopped 15 shots on Friday and 38 on Saturday.

Swift Current (8-5-1) had been one of the top teams in the league prior to the weekend.

Estevan (5-9-4) will return to the ice on Nov. 14 against the Notre Dame Hounds. The game starts at 3:30 p.m. at Affinity Place.
