ESTEVAN - The Estevan Great North U18 AAA Bears edged the Yorkton Maulers 4-3 on Wednesday night in Yorkton.
Estevan held leads of 1-0 after the first period and 3-1 through two. Taye Shukin scored in the first period for Estevan, and Jase McNichol and Talen Wallis added goals in the second.
The two teams combined for three goals in the final minutes of the third period. Cooper Flath scored into an empty net with 2:45 to play to give Estevan a 4-1 lead. The Terriers cut the lead to two 36 seconds later, and pulled to within a goal with 41 seconds remaining to make the game interesting.
Kaden Perron made 19 saves to get the win in goal.
Estevan (16-15-5) has 37 points, one off of the franchise record for points in a season set in 2021-22. The Bears have eight games remaining.
Up next will be two games at the Prince Albert Mintos on Jan. 27 and 28.
