ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins have taken a 3-2 series lead in their best-of-seven SJHL quarter-final series with the Flin Flon Bombers.
Alameda’s Cody Davis scored twice, including the winner with 3:11 to play in the first overtime period, and goaltender Cam Hrdlicka made 66 saves, in the Bruins’ 2-1 win over the host Bombers Friday night.
The game was scoreless until the 6:06 mark of the second period when Noah Houle scored for the Bombers. Flin Flon outshot Estevan 16-8 in the first period and 23-6 in the second.
The Bruins pressed for the tying goal in the third period, outshooting the Bombers 14-13. Davis scored the tying goal with 7:34 to play in the third on a power play.
Flin Flon outshot Estevan 15-6 in overtime, but Davis notched the winner for Estevan.
Harmon Laser-Hume made 32 saves for the Bombers.
The Bruins can wrap up the series if they win Game 6 Sunday night in Estevan, starting at 7 p.m.
The Bruins’ win Friday ended a 13-game winning streak for the home team in playoff games between Estevan and Flin Flon. The last time a road team had won a postseason game between the two teams was Game 3 in a best-of-five series in 2014.
