The midget A female Baxter Cougars are one game away from moving on to the provincial finals. Only the Regina Renegades stand in their way.

Game one of their two-game, total-goals series left the Cougars up one point after winning a tight 4-3 game. The March 6 game at the Civic saw the Cougars never fall behind.

Katie Cameron scored the night's opening goal for the Cougars near the midway point of the first period.

The 1-0 lead stuck until a whole period later when the Renegades tied things up, but only for a few seconds.

Jennifer Biette reclaimed the lead for the Cougars just 13 seconds after relinquishing it and Cameron notched her second, leaving the Cougars up 3-1 with a period to play.

The Cougars stretched that lead to 4-1 with a goal by Jolie Walliser, and then the girls hung on.

The Renegades made it interesting closing the gap to two, and then really interesting when they scored to get within one.

With a 4-3 lead and less than four minutes to play, the Cougars held off their opponent for the win.

Game two is March 13 in Regina, and the winner will play in the provincial championship.

Round two, league playoff action pits the Cougars against the Weyburn TS&M Oilers.

Game one of the two-game, total-goals series ended in a tie on March 5, making this a one-game series from here on in. The two teams matched each other goal-for-goal on Saturday ending in a 2-2 tie.

Weyburn got things going early, scoring just under five minutes into the opening period.

They would remain down a goal going into the second. In the second, Estevan got into some penalty trouble, collecting four minors in the frame. They were however, able to go on the offensive during one of those penalties and Paige Collopy scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game.

Weyburn retook their lead 1:17 into the third period, but this time the Cougars wouldn't sit behind for too long.

One minute and four seconds after the Oilers scored, Walliser scored a power play goal for the Cougars.

Both goalies held off any further offensive flare, but the Cougars outshot their opponent 44-20. Despite that difference the Cougars will go into the second game all-square with the Oilers, with everything on the line.

The Cougars host Weyburn for game two tonight at the Civic at 6:45.

The winner will play either Fort Qu'Appelle or Regina in a best-of-five series final for the league championship.
