The Estevan Chargers followed up last week's victory with a hotly contested loss at the hands of the Regina Unicorns on Saturday at Estevan Comprehensive School.
Jordan Howie rushed for two touchdowns in a 23-12 defeat that dropped the peewee squad to 1-3 on the season.
The difference was one touchdown, though a pair of missed converts by the Chargers widened the gap.
"It was a pretty evenly matched game, I think. It was really competitive," said Estevan head coach Steve McLellan.
Regina drew first blood on a six-yard passing play into the end zone in the first quarter.
The Chargers would respond before the end of the first quarter, with Howie ripping off a run of more than 70 yards down the right sideline, breaking several tackles along the way.
"He's a beast for us, one of a few that we have," McLellan said of Howie.
The Unicorns extended their lead with two more majors on runs of 13 and 20 yards, respectively. The visitors successfully went for two on both plays.
Howie closed out the scoring for the Chargers in the third quarter with a rushing play much like his first one, running roughly 78 yards down the right side to the end zone.
The Unicorns likely would have widened their margin of victory further had it not been for a fourth-quarter interception by the Chargers deep in their own territory.
McLellan said he was impressed with his defence, which allowed easily its lowest point total of the season.
"Week by week, we're playing different teams and you can still see the defence is improving lots."
He said he hopes the team can take advantage of its "momentum" with another home game on Sunday against the Regina Huskies. Game time is 11 a.m.
"We pulled off a win last week, and this week, another close game, so hopefully next week we'll be in here again and do some more damage."
