Andrew Johnston scored with five minutes left in regulation to earn the Humboldt Broncos a 2-1 victory over the Bruins today, sending the team home empty-handed from its three-game weekend road swing.
Broncos forward Andrew Herle had opened the scoring nine minutes into the first and Josh Jelinski tied things up 11 seconds into the middle frame.
Humboldt outshot Estevan 40-20, including a margin of 21-5 in the first. Steven Glass got the start but was pulled midway through the second in favour of Tyler Ross - possibly due to an injury, considering he'd only allowed one goal.
Yesterday in Nipawin, Jesse Bernard burned his old team by scoring the winner with just 24 seconds left in a 4-3 Hawks victory.
Austin Yano had scored twice, along with one from Cole Olson, to build a 3-2 lead for the Bruins after two periods. But Grant Jensen and Bernard both scored in the last six minutes to turn the tables on the visitors.
Mitch Doell and Jeff Datoff also scored for Nipawin.
The Bruins (21-22-0-1) are now below .500 for the first time since September and will need to turn things around to catch Yorkton (four games in hand) or Melville (six games in hand) for a spot in the top three in the Sherwood.
