It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but the Estevan Bruins got goals from seven different players to whitewash the Notre Dame Hounds 9-2 Tuesday at Spectra Place.
Calder Neufeld completed a hat trick in the third period and the Bruins also got goals from Matt Dochylo, Derek Whitehill, Cole Olson, Eric Baldwin, Taylor Reich and Austin Yano, who added three assists.
The win moves the Bruins to 12-6 on the year, while the fifth-place Hounds drop to 6-7-0-1. Estevan outshot Notre Dame 39-35, with Steven Glass making 33 saves in the Bruins' cage.
"I saw us get off to a decent start for the first couple of shifts, then I saw us have a bit of a lull there for the next eight or nine minutes," said Bruins head coach Keith Cassidy. "But I think we rebounded well and finished strong. That's a game that we're going to break down and watch because there are a lot of key teaching points that happened tonight in terms of what not to do."
After conceding the game's first goal to Ben Morgan at the four-minute mark, the Bruins scored three times in five minutes to take a 3-1 lead after the first period. They then broke the game open with four goals in the middle frame. The Hounds' second goal came from Brandon Millin late in the period.
Neufeld's hat trick gave him a tighter grip on the SJHL goal lead, with his 18 tallies leading teammate Dylan Smith and Weyburn's Jesse Ross, who both have 13.
The Bruins are in action again Wednesday night when they host the Yorkton Terriers.
