The fifth annual Sam's Barrel Extravaganza barrel racing competition was held on the weekend in Bienfait.
The two-day event, which brings in riders from across the province and some from Manitoba, is normally held at the Estevan Exhibition Grounds but had to be moved to Coalfields Arena due to the rainy spring.
A total of 176 riders competed in open, youth, bareback and peewee categories.
Each event used the 3D placing system with three divisions, each being a one-second time bracket, beginning from the fastest time recorded.
The open and youth classes were ranked separately on their time each day and their total time. The top 15 total times in each division advanced to the short go event on Sunday.
There was also a selects category for riders 15-and-under, and another for Saskatchewan-bred horses.
Estevan's Melissa Harding had the fastest total time in the open category at 26.395 seconds; Traci Denbrok of Esterhazy won the open short go at 12.878 seconds.
Memory McDonald of Edwin, Man., clocked the quickest total time for youth at 27.407 seconds and also won the youth short go with a time of 13.061 seconds.
McDonald also earned the youth high point award aboard her horse, Partner Zan. Bengough's Shelby Thue and her horse Thom won the Sask.-bred youth high point honour.
