The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins had a pair of league games this past weekend and were able to come out victorious in both contests, improving their record to 26-3-1 on the season.

In their first game, the Bruins hosted the eighth place Lumsden Lions at the Civic Auditorium. Despite coming out on top, the affair was a little too close for Estevan's liking as they were forced to come from behind in the third period for a 6-5 win.

Lumsden was able to hang with the high-powered Bruins throughout the game and even outshot them 44-33, including 26 shots on Estevan goalie Nate Ferris in the second period alone. Thanks to that onslaught and three power play goals, the Lions held a 5-4 advantage heading into the third.

Goals from Marshall Holzer and Austin Halladay combined with stellar play from Ferris in that final frame salvaged the come-from-behind win for the Bruins. Dylan Johner, Dylan Herzberg and Rhett Handley had the other Estevan goals in the victory.

The Bruins then hit the road on Sunday to take on the Regina Capitals. In another close game, Estevan was able to slip by their opponents and come away with a 3-2 win. Johner, Mark Moriarty and Jake McMillen each scored for the Bruins in the victory, while Tyler Myers earned the win in goal.

Estevan is back in action tomorrow night as they enter round two of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association provincial playdowns. Game one of a two-game, total-goal series with the Notre Dame Hounds goes in Wilcox at 5 o'clock. Game two will be in Estevan on Monday at 8 p.m. at the Civic.

The Bruins also have a league game in Yorkton on Saturday at 7p.m.
