Weyburn's Meagan Milatz will represent the province at nationals after a successful weekend of competition. Milatz competed in the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association provincial competition in Moose Jaw on June 3 to 5.

On the first day of competition, Saskatchewan's team was chosen to represent the province at nationals, which will be held in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on August 11 and 12. Milatz was chosen to be the Saskatchewan representative for the piano category.

The second day of competition saw Milatz win three out of four of the classes that she entered. She placed first in the Senior Beethoven class, Senior Chopin class and Senior 20th Century Music class.

During the evening, the adjudicators picked the top two players from each discipline (piano, voice, strings, woodwinds and brass) to compete in the Grand Awards Concert which was held on June 5. Based on her previous performances, the adjudicators chose Milatz as the most outstanding competitor of the Grand Awards Concert.

In Nova Scotia, Milatz will play "Prokofiev Concerto #3," accompanied by her teacher Cherith Alexander, and a piece by Chopin called "Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Brillante."

Milatz will be attending McGill University in the fall to pursue a degree in piano performance. She is the daughter of Paul and Brenda Milatz of Weyburn.
