On November 11 of all days, a World War II-era mortar shell was found in Estevan.

According to information received by The Mercury, a shell was found by a surveying crew this afternoon near the City of Estevan's sewage treatment plant which is located on the southern outskirts of the city.

Const. Craig Bird of the Estevan Police Service confirmed to The Mercury that a shell was found and that the RCMP bomb disposal unit was brought down to take care of it.

Bird described the shell as a training round and said it was inert. He added the EPS would also like to issue a warning to the public that if they come across a similar item they should not touch it and report it to the authorities.

"This stuff has been sitting around for over 60 years and it doesn't age well."
