A number of Estevan residents were recognized for their contributions to the community today at the Women of Today luncheon.

The sold-out affair featured the presentation of four awards as well as a speech from Dr. June LaDrew, a professor in kinesiology and health studies at the University of Regina. LaDrew's speech focused on the need to stay active and addressed concerns about the inactivity of today's youth.

As for the awards, capturing the SaskPower Outstanding Contribution to the Workplace Award was Linda Murphy. An employee of the Woodlawn Golf Club, Murphy has been instrumental in helping the club recover from the floods of 2011.

The SaskTel Outstanding Contribution to the Community Award went to a woman who also had to deal with last year's flooding. Wanda Harron is a coach and volunteer with Estevan Minor Football and was also part of the team that brought the Kraft Celebration Tour to Estevan in August.

Kelci Little was the winner of the Shirley Orsted Memorial Award for Young Women of Today. Little is an honour roll student at the Estevan Comprehensive School and is heavily involved in the school's SRC and sports programs.

The Ida Petterson Memorial Award for Outstanding Entrepreneur went to Dr. Sarah Sliva, the owner of Â鶹´«Ã½AV East Eyecare in Estevan. A recent graduate of the University of Waterloo, Sliva has developed a strong reputation for customer care and dedication to her patients in the short time she has been in business in the city.
