A woman from the Whitebear First Nation was sentenced to 30 months in custody after entering a guilty plea to aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm.

Corine Marie Lonethunder pleaded guilty last Wednesday in Carlyle provincial court to offences that stemmed from an incident on March 26. Lonethunder had been in custody since her arrest that day. She originally faced an attempted murder charge.

The 38-year-old was arrested by Carlyle RCMP, after they responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing. The victims were a 60-year-old male and a 61-year-old female, who were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

In Estevan provincial court proceedings, Michael Baguma, who was arrested for trafficking ecstasy and released on conditions June 29, was arrested July 8 for allegedly breaching his condition of not consuming alcohol.

Baguma's lawyer told Judge Karl Bazin her client spoke with police at 5 p.m. on the day of his arrest. Then at around 11:30 p.m. officers woke Baguma up at his house and demanded a breath test, which they allege he failed.

The Crown had opposed his release, but no prosecutor was in court. After the Crown asked for an adjournment until July 14 for a show-cause hearing, Baguma's counsel argued that the defence was prepared to go forward with the hearing that day and suggested there be steps taken to get a prosecutor to appear by phone.

Bazin said he was "leaning" toward requesting the hearing take place without an adjournment. When no prosecutor was available to appear for the hearing, the Crown consented to his release.

In other court proceedings, Connor Mueller was arrested on July 8 by the Carlyle RCMP. Mueller was charged with driving in a dangerous manner causing harm to three individuals. He is also charged with operating a vehicle while disqualified.

He was represented by Legal Aid and wished to go ahead with his show-cause hearing. The file is a Carlyle matter that had been set over to Monday's Estevan court sitting expecting a Crown prosecutor could speak to the matter, but with no prosecutor present he was remanded until Carlyle court on Wednesday.
