WEYBURN – The Weyburn Youth Center will celebrate three decades of serving the youth of the city, with a fundraising banquet on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Knox Hall.
The banquet will feature a turkey supper with all of the fixings, plus there will be a silent and live auction in support of the work of the youth centre. Winston Bailey will handle the live auction portion of the evening.
Both former executive directors Jerry Dennill and Brian Hopfe will share pictures and stories from their time at the Youth Center as part of the look back at the past 30 years in Weyburn, plus current board chair Cam Weber will share about the startup of the Youth Center.
Weber noted that the response for auction items has been slow, but noted there are needs at the centre that people or companies could help out with.
“We have a few needs if any contractors would care to donate to, such as a high lift to put our new sign up, plus we have a roof leak that we need a lift to get up to and fix,” he said, adding they also need some graffiti removal at the skate park.
In addition, they need the bottom two feet of stucco finish coat and some holes in stucco to fix, a little cement work to repair on some skate park ramps and some other minor things if people would like to help that way, he said.
The banquet tickets are $30 each, in honour of the anniversary of the facility, or a table of eight costs $230.
The doors open at 5 p.m. and the supper will be served at 6 p.m.
