WEYBURN – The Weyburn Wildlife Federation will host their second annual catch-and-release fish derby at Mainprize Regional Park on Sunday, March 5.
Registration will go from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the fishing will officially begin at 1 p.m. with the sounding of an air horn, running until 4 p.m.
The cost to register is $30 for one hole, $50 for two holes or $20 per hold for those 15 and under.
Cash prizes for the biggest fish caught will be available for the three species at Mainprize, with a $400 prize up for the biggest pike, walleye or perch. In the youth categories, a $100 prize is offered for the biggest fish from the same three species.
This is a catch-and-release derby, and to officially be counted and weighed, it must be brought to the weigh-in shack in a pail of water and must be alive.
The provincial fishing regulations are in effect, and all those fishing must have a valid fishing licence.
The holes will all be predrilled by Wildlife Federation members, and no fishing shacks will be allowed, other than a popup shelter.
There will be a 50-50 raffle available at a price of three tickets for $10.
