WEYBURN – The Quota Club of Weyburn announces their donation of $10,066 to the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation in honour of founding club member, Isabelle Butters.
Isabelle was a dedicated member of Quota for 66 years.
The club remains grateful for her years of ensuring that “Robert’s Rules of Order” were closely followed, the budgets balanced, that the club was aware of community needs they could serve, and above all, her immense gift of friendship and mentorship.
Isabelle started her career as a secretary with the Weyburn Co-op and rose to become General Manager. She ran for city council and served for 12 years before becoming Weyburn’s first elected female mayor.
In her volunteer life, with Quota, Rebekahs, Grace United Church, Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, Weyburn Public Library, Weyburn and District United Appeal, Weyburn Special Care Homes, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts and many more organizations, Isabelle followed her predictable pattern of rising from membership to leadership, sowing seeds of friendship and respect wherever she gave her time and expertise.
She received recognition for her contributions receiving the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Order of Canada in addition to awards from the various organizations she served on both provincial and national levels.
Isabelle served as a member of the Weyburn Union Hospital Board for many years.
“We know that she took a great interest in Weyburn getting a new hospital and today we feel it is a most appropriate donation for our Quota Club to make in her memory,” said Quota Club president Melanie Sorensen.
"The Foundation is very thankful to Quota Club of Weyburn for their tremendous donation in memory of Isabelle Butters - a great founder, member, and advocate of Weyburn and area for many, many years," said foundation board chair Jeff Hayward.
In a statement from the club, they said, “We thank Isabelle for her years of dedication to our club and to her community. With this donation she continues to serve.”
