WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service received 81 calls for service during the period of Oct. 4 to 10, resulting in a total of 14 charges. Of the charges, five were under the Criminal Code of Canada, seven under the Traffic Safety Act, and one each under the Cannabis Control Saskatchewan Act and the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act.

Police responded to a local business reporting the theft of recyclable goods. Police were able to locate the individuals responsible and return the items to the rightful owner. No charges resulted but two adult males were warned and advised to stay away from the business.

Vandalism to the interior of Haig School was discovered by a property rep and reported to police. The damage is extensive and the matter is currently under investigation.

Police conducted several traffic stops during the week that resulted in three-day driver’s license suspensions involving alcohol and/or drug consumption. These stops also resulted in the vehicle being impounded for the same period of time.

A reported assault involving youths was investigated by police, resulting in one of the youths being charged. The youth was released on conditions with an upcoming court date.

Police responded to a reported fight at a local establishment. Upon arrival, police were advised that the suspects had fled in a vehicle. Police were able to locate the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop, which resulted in the driver being charged with impaired driving, refusing to comply with a breath demand, and unlawfully having alcohol in a vehicle.

Police attended a local business by request as an unruly customer was verbally upset about the current health restrictions. The individual left the business without further incident prior to officers arriving.

Also during the week, officers responded to numerous calls involving intoxicated people located in public. Two of the calls resulted in an individual being taken into custody and held overnight until they were sober and released without charge.
